| AROUND AND ABOUT THE OTIS HEALTH CARE
CENTER
160 YEARS OLD AND COUNTING...
It was in 1844 that Reverend Horace Fletcher, the minister at
the Townshend Baptist Church, built this home. Formerly the site
of Grace Cottage Hospital before the 1998 addition was completed,
Grace Cottage Family Health is currently located in the building,
which has undergone countless renovations during its lifetime.

Mary Plumb (shown here at age 18), owned the Fletcher House
during the early 1900’s. In 1938, Mary who was a math and science
teacher and ultimately vice principal of Leland & Gray Seminary,
rented the first floor to the new doctor in town, Carlos Otis,
and his wife, Ruth, for their home and offices. Ten years later,
she deeded her home for use as a hospital, and she became the
first president of the Grace Cottage Hospital Board of Trustees.
